NEW COVER

It may come as a surprise to most people, but authors don’t get a lot of say on either the title or the cover of their books. We wait, nervously chewing our fingernails, to find out what title has been chosen to grace our offerings and what the cover is going to look like. Most of the time I’ve been satisfied with both and a few times my publisher has actually kept my working title for the book’s official title. This time I had nothing to do with either. Shudder fits , but doesn’t even come close to my working title--Until Forever. I didn’t have so much as a hint what the artists were working on for my cover. I wasn’t certain I liked it at first, but it has grown on me. Maybe it’s the eyes; they don’t look scared enough.
Here's the blurb from the back of the book:
Darcy and Clare grew up as best friends, sharing trials and triumphs from preschool through college graduation. Now they're sharing an apartment in Boise, Idaho where Clare just landed a great job and Darcy is pursuing a teaching certificate. There's only one problem: Blaine, Clare's boyfriend. His chauvinistic, know-it-all ways set Darcy's teeth on edge. Darcy vows not to let Blaine ruin her lifelong friendship with Clare, but when Blaine insists on moving in, Darcy suddenly finds herself alone.

The estranged friends forge ahead on seemingly separate paths. Engaged to Blaine, Clare becomes trapped in ugly family politics and vicious treatment from her finace. Darcy finds a temporary home with Karlene, an accident victim seeking live-in help, but a twisted plot soon threatens their safety. Clare's wedding briefly reunites her with Darcy, yet the friends have never been farther apart. And when Clare finds herself in mortal peril and finally calls upon Darcy to help, it might be too late.

I’ll post the first chapter on my web page shortly. My daughter, Janice, is my webmaster and she has pneumonia, so needless to say, I won’t be pressuring her to hurry. The book has almost six weeks until its release date so there’s plenty of time. Until then I'd love to know what you think of the cover.

I like it. I think you're right that her eyes don't show that she is that scared, however, I like the eye color. They really stand out over the rest of the cover. It looks good, and attention grabbing which helps on getting people to pick up the book.

I love the cover. I would pick this one up if I saw it in the bookstore. You're right though, she doesn't look that scared. Maybe just a little startled.

The cover definitely would grab my attention from the shelf. I agree on the eyes though. They don't look very scared. I can't wait to read the book!

I would say she looks startled, but the cover does look intriguing. Even if it wasn't your book, I would pick it up and read the back

I love it. It is a book I would pick up if I saw it sitting on a shelf. I agree that her eyes only make her look startled but I love the title. I can't wait to read it.

Hi Aunt Jennie - cute story for you real quick: I was in a Seagull Books Store in Logan while in town for my Sister-in-Law's wedding and found your section. I called my brother-in-law over to prove I have a famous author aunt and said "Look - these are Aunt Jennie's books" and showed him some favorites.

The employee overhead me and said "Aunt Jennie? She's an amazing author!" She was impressed and I felt pretty cool with my celebrity status because of you! :-) Just thought I'd let you know.

Mmm Your comments leave me feeling hopeful Shuuder will get its share of attention. Please tell everyone you know it's coming out. And Sarah, what a fun and flattering story. Thanks!

I love her eyes... the color is gorgeous.

Hmmm, here is what I see.

The photographer caught her at what could be the perfect moment for "describing" the book which from the description you posted sounds perfect for the storyline. You just have to see what her eyes are saying. She looks like she's a bit surprised, but has not yet realized that the situation could go either way... surprise, surprise or a whole lot of trouble. I can see it, it's right there and any second her expression could turn into true fright - although it is a cover and her expression on it won't change ;^)
Maybe the photgrapher is trying to portray Clare and Blaine...
This will be fun to read.
Wow, they went the total opposite direction from the working title. Still, I like it!

The cover is very eye catching! Maybe you should change the name of your book to "Startled". Kidding!

I like it! And I agree with the others, her eye color is really pretty. What's more is I'm drawn to the bad guy's hand. It's a little dirty, not something I'd want clapped over my mouth.

Congrats on your book! I'm excited to read it!
