WINNER AND NEW CONTEST

Congratulations to Gamila ! She is the winner of the February 2 contest. She has chosen Heroes of Glorieta Pass as her prize, leaving the other books offered as prizes for the next contest along with Rolling with the Tide by Jeff Call, Time Riders by Sierra St. James (Jannette Rallison), and Mirror Image by Clair M. Poulson.

Everyone's responses to a time and place they would like to visit were great. I loved reading your comments. Thanks for entering my contest.

To make both posting and commenting easier, I have added the rules of the game to my sidebar. Remember you can add a thoughtful comment to any of my posts during the two week period of each contest, not just in answer to the question I pose and previous prizes not selected by winners may be selected as alternative prizes.

Here's a rundown of the new selections offered this time:

Rolling with the Tide: Meet Gunnar Hanshaw, a former star high school quarterback from California whose career ended with a severe shoulder injury. Now on a mission in Chile, Gunnar faces an uncertain future. Then while playing catch on A Preparation Day, his companion notices his unusually strong arm and encourages him to give football another chance. Eventually, Gunnar finds himself a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Time Riders: Sheridan and Taylor are ordinary college students until a mistake by twenty-fourth century scientists drags them three hundred years into the future. This is a fast leap into a corrupt future world filled with suspense, intrigue, and a bit of humor.

Mirror Image: Twins born to a dying, hippie mother are separated and grow up worlds apart. Their worlds collide when one person figures out the connection between these two young men. While her knowledge has the potential to reunite the long-lost brothers, it also involves dangerous individuals who are desperate to keep hidden truths buried, no matter who gets in the way.

All three of these books represent different types of intrigue and adventure. So here's the question I'm asking for this contest. What is your favorite LDS fiction action/adventure/intrigue novel and what makes it stand out for you?

I love the book Emily by Jack Weyland. It is about a girl who is severly burned in a fire - and about her coping and realization that Heavenly Father is there for her no matter what.

Did I ever tell you that I was talking with a friend about good books and she said "You have got to read the Bracelet - it's the best book ever!" I said "do you know who wrote that?" She said "of course - Jennie Hansen!" I told her that you were my aunt and she was so jealous and said she LOVES your books!

Thanks Sarah! I'm so glad you passed that on. And glad you're entered in my next contest.

I love The Bracelet Series! The book that came to my mind first was Undercurrents by Traci Hunter Abramson. I liked it, because it was full of suspense and action. It is about a swimmer who is an Olympic hopeful, but she has to go into the witness protection program for witnessing a murder. While under her assumed name, she meets a guy and falls in love. It is complicated though, because she can't really tell him who she really is. I also liked the sequels to this book as well.

I would have to say your book "abandoned." I absolutely love that book. I've read it 3 times and it still keeps me on my toes. Besides being an exciting novel it also brings spiritualy enlightenment. I sometimes feel like tisa, in the sense that I never had this HUGE spiritually moment, but I've always known the church to be true.

I am not so into the action/adventure in the sense of it but my favorite LDS fiction action/adventure would not be 1 book but the entire series of The Kingdom and the Crown.
I loved the surealness of the books! I was sucked back into ancient times. The conflict, the way the conflict came alive impressed me! The difference summed up is, I felt like I was living in ancient times instead of reading about them!

I LOVE Hearts in Hiding by Betsy Brannon Green. I've probably read it 10+ times. In this book, Betsy takes two complete strangers and throws them into a genuine Southern town for a "normal" life while they're actually in hiding. And they are Mormons living in Baptist country to boot! Having been raised in SC, I know first hand how Mormons are often seen so differently. What I love about this book and what makes it stand out to me is how Mark and Kate change the way the people in Haggerty view Mormons. No matter where we live, but especially in places where there are not many Mormons, we each have that same ability, and in fact responsibility, to change any misconceived notions that others may have towards Mormons. Great book with great sequels! :)

I found Time Riders so very intriguing. I have never read anything like it and it drew me in from the very beginning.

The first book that came to my mind was Epicenter by Sonia O'Brien. I read it last summer and when I think about the story I can still feel the suspense and intensity. I love it when that happens!

I love the Tennis Shoes Adventure Series. It would have to be my favorite because it has given me a fun way to teach my children these stories.

I really, really enjoyed the Fablehaven series so far. I love each book having a moral. The first book showed the natural consequences of obedience and disobedience. And the books are very creative!
My first favorite LDS book I remember loving was 'Corker' by Anya Bateman.

Wow - that's almost like asking me to pick a favorite child. There are so many... Chris Heimerdinger had some good one, I love Betsy Brannon Green and Traci Abramson, Kerry Blair and Jennie Hansen. Hmmm, so I didn't answer the question really at all, but if it is a good story with some good character development I will love it.
